About

Welcome to the Digital Bedouin! Hopefully this will be a blog worth reading. Possibly for a chuckle, either about a story or directed at me, or whatever else you may get out of it. I hope to put up some anecdotes about me and my world and travels, maybe even a tech tip or two or whatever else I feel like writing about.

So, about me. I’m a 30’something UNIX admin / programmer with zero artistic sensibilities. I can grok your server, but couldn’t make a pretty picture of it. I have on occasion been known to play WoW and have done my fair share of Counter-Strike. Fantasy novels keep me entertained as well as certain graphic novels. I don’t own a TV and take flak for it at work. I buy South Park and the Simpsons on DVD, but nothing else on TV is worth watching outside of some cable shows and I refuse to pay $60+/month so I can watch 2 or 3 shows. I enjoy a variety of different movies styles, although I’m not a fan of horror movies and over the top gore fests. My musical interests are across the board, although country and rap make me feel ill. The best programming music is techno or classical. A good game of cribbage or chess at the local pub is a good thing, especially with a Bailey’s and coffee.

I’m currently living in Alaska working for a consulting company (Byte Networking) with my dog, Zorro, and cat, Spike. Winter is coming and my skis are waxed. When I’m not behind a monitor I enjoy a midnight hike along the beach, if it’s not pouring rain, or being the first to take steps into a virgin snowfall on the mountain top.

Just to get it out of the way so there is no confusion on the topic: FreeBSD rocks! Linux is is a suitable replacement for FreeBSD, OS X is great for your parents and Windows is for games.
